My AVG has in the last couple of days started telling me that I need to put in a licence number (it hasn't done this before) but I don't know it and I am no longer in contact with the person who installed it for me. More infections are being found by my spyware doctor now and I am getting worried.
Are there free anti virus programmes or do I need to pay?
What do you recommend to keep my PC safe?
Many thanks.

Could be a problem with it.
Remove it first from the system.
Go to www.cnet.com and under downloads you will find it is the number one choice and also free.
Just download again and then run it.
Should solve the problem.

Avast! Home Edition is free @ http://avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html.
It's one of the best ones out there.

Here is the link to a an excellent free antivirus from Germany. Avira is rated as good as Kaspersky or NOD32.

Manual updates are required when free.

I recommend NIS2008, over 65% of all computers worldwide use Symantec products, and since you have to buy it, and it's not on the system when you buy it, (like the Windows Operating System), these sales would indicate that people are happy with it, and it does the job, (although it is quite resource hungry, it is the most efficient out there).
